Top 5 Features of the 2022 Hyundai Elantra

Meet the 2022 Hyundai Elantra, a compact sedan that comes with an edge. The Elantra most recently won the North American Car of the Year award, and for good reasons. A bold exterior style, impressive comfort and convenience, powerful performance, and the latest technology come together in perfect unison to create an exceptional driving experience.

If you’re looking to upgrade your Plano commute with a new sedan, you should look into the Elantra. Four trims plus hybrid options provide choices to suit the most discriminating drivers. Here’s a look at the top five features that make the Hyundai Elantra such a compelling choice.

Powertrain Options

Hyundai uses a 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder engine with 16 valves with dual continuously variable valve timing and multipoint fuel injection technology. Hyundai mates this engine with their Smartstream intelligent variable transmission. This powertrain delivers 142 horsepower and 137 pound-feet of torque and comes standard on the SE, SEL, and Limited trims.

The Elantra N-Line trim upgrades the engine to a 1.6-liter inline four-cylinder with 16 valves and dual continuously variable valve duration technology. This revolutionary technology stretches or shortens the time the intake valves remain open, depending on the vehicle’s speed and load. Hyundai asserts that the new tech improves efficiency by 5% and performance by 4%.

This gasoline direct-injection engine pairs with your choice of a six-speed manual transmission or a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission with Shiftronic technology. The powertrain puts out an impressive 201 horsepower and 195 pound-feet of torque.

Hyundai’s hybrid trims, Blue and Limited, use a different 1.6-liter inline four-cylinder engine with dual continuously variable valve timing and gasoline direct-injection technology. This engine pairs with a six-speed EcoShift dual-clutch transmission and a 32-kW electric motor with a lithium-ion battery to deliver a combined system of 226 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. You get all that power, plus impressive EPA mileage ratings of 53/56/54 city/highway/combined. The Hyundai Elantra is often compared to the Kia Forte, but we believe the following should be enough to keep you interested in the Elantra.

Driver-Assist Suite

Hyundai continually adds the latest technology to its suite of driver-assist systems. For example, a forward-collision avoidance assist with pedestrian, cyclist, and junction turning detection alerts you to potential obstacles. This system detects an object ahead, such as a stopped vehicle or pedestrian. Also, it detects cyclists in the road, as well as approaching cars in your turning path. Should you fail to react, the system will engage emergency brake support to help mitigate or avoid a collision.

The suite includes smart cruise control with stop and go. You can activate the system while cruising at highway speeds, and the system will automatically keep you at a preset speed and distance to the vehicle ahead. When the car before you slows, the system slows down your car accordingly, even to a complete stop. When traffic resumes, the system returns your car to its preset speed and distance. This intelligent system helps reduce driver fatigue, especially on long commutes and road trips.

A blind-spot collision avoidance assist system uses radar-based sensors to monitor the Elantra’s blind spots. The system alerts you when a vehicle enters your blind spot while making a lane-changing maneuver.

Hyundai’s lane keeping assist system tracks your Elantra when traveling within marked lanes. When the system detects a drift, it alerts you with audio cues. Should you fail to react, the lane- following assist system engages. In addition, this system provides gentle steering correction to help return your car to its lane.

You also get a rear cross-traffic collision avoidance system. This system uses similar technology to monitor behind your Elantra when in reverse. The system will alert you with visual and audio cues if it detects a vehicle approaching from either side while you back up. Should you fail to react in time, the system will engage emergency braking.

The Hyundai Elantra also features a brake assist system. This system detects emergency braking and adds additional brake pressure to aid in stopping. In addition, the Elantra comes with highway driving assist, a Level 2 system that engenders trust from the driver. Highway driving assist combines the radar and camera technology of the forward-collision avoidance assist, lane keeping and lane following assist systems, and the smart cruise control system to help drive the Elantra with minimal driver input. This system can slow you down, change lanes, and even navigate turns and off-ramps.

Hyundai Digital Key

Now you can lock, unlock, start, or stop your Elantra via your smartphone using the Hyundai digital key. Simply download the app, and you can remotely operate certain features wherever you have a cellphone signal. You can find your Elantra in oversized parking lots, and you can allow up to four users.

Sophisticated Interior

Leather-trimmed seats with heating and ventilation, a heated, leather-wrapped steering wheel, and a leather-wrapped shift knob add comfort and refined style to the Elantra’s elegant interior. A 10.25-inch color touch screen powers all your in-vehicle tech. Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto connectivity allow you to sync your smartphones for hands-free operation. Now you can make calls, send texts, access your favorite playlists, and more using intuitive voice commands.

A wireless charging pad and multiple USB charging and data ports keep everyone charged and connected. Hyundai’s customizable ambient lighting system enables you to set the mood using myriad colors and brightness. The eight-speaker Bose audio system delivers premium theater-quality sound and comes with a center channel speaker and subwoofer.

The N-Line trim adds sport seats with signature leather trim, sport pedals, and steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters. In addition, a dual, fully automatic temperature control system keeps both front passengers in their comfort zones.

Race-Inspired Exterior

Sharp lines and sleek contours speak to the Elantra’s agility. The angular front fascia offers a penetrating gaze. Available 18-inch alloy wheels offer bold style, and the LED lighting system and rear spoiler add to the performance.
