Which Hyundai SUV is Right For Me?

Is it time to upgrade your ride to a new SUV? Or maybe you need to switch from a cramped sedan to a spacious three-row crossover to fit your growing family? No matter what type of SUV you may need, you can find it in the Hyundai lineup. Take a look at your options so you can decide which Hyundai SUV is right for you.

Hyundai KONA

The Hyundai KONA is the smallest SUV in the lineup. It has room for five people, and it comes in a practical and fun-to-drive package. Power comes from either a 2.0-liter four-cylinder gas engine with 147 horsepower or a 1.6-liter turbo four-cylinder with 195 horsepower. You can also get an electric powertrain for the KONA. The cabin is spacious for a subcompact SUV and offers features such as heated front seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and automatic climate control.

Technology in the KONA starts with an 8-inch touch screen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a six-speaker stereo. The SEL with the Convenience package has a 10.25-inch touch screen and wireless charging.

Like all the other Hyundai SUVs, the KONA has a suite of standard safety features and driver aids. It includes forward collision mitigation, lane departure warning with mitigation, lane-keep assist, and a blind-spot warning system with rear cross-traffic alert. A safe-exit system is also standard. This feature will prevent a rear-seat passenger from opening their door when traffic is approaching from behind.

Hyundai TUCSON

The Hyundai TUCSON is a step up in size from the KONA and features a cutting-edge look and lots of style. Power for this Hyundai SUV comes from a 2.5-liter four-cylinder gas engine with 187 horsepower or a hybrid setup with a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine and electric motor. These combine to generate 226 horsepower. If you want to take your ride off the beaten path, the TUCSON XRT has an off-road theme with unique bumpers, side steps, and a tow hitch.

You’ll get cloth upholstery in the entry-level TUCSON, but a step up to the SEL gets you a power-adjustable driver’s seat, heated front seats, and a hands-free power liftgate. A 10.25-inch touch screen with an infotainment system that works with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto is available, along with navigation and a premium Bose stereo system.

The list of standard safety features that come with the TUCSON is long and comprehensive. It includes forward collision warning, automatic braking, lane-keep assist, a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert, and adaptive cruise control. A blind-spot intervention system is also standard. This will automatically steer the TUCSON back onto its lane if it senses an attempted lane change when someone is in your blind spot.

Hyundai SANTA FE

The SANTE FE is a midsize Hyundai SUV. It has two rows and room for five. You’ll get several powertrain options with the SANTA FE. The base engine is a 2.5-liter four-cylinder gas engine with 191 horsepower, but if you want more power, the Limited has a 2.5-liter turbo four-cylinder with 281 horsepower. Hyundai also offers the SANTA FE with a hybrid setup that generates 226 horsepower.

The well-equipped cabin features stain-resistant cloth upholstery at the entry level, and it comes with a 60/40 split rear seat. Moving up the lineup adds features such as heated front seats, a power-adjustable front seat, and power-folding rear seats. The high-end Calligraphy model comes with premium leather upholstery and ambient interior lighting.

Every SANTA FE has a full suite of advanced safety systems with forward collision warning, automatic braking, lane-keep assist, and a driver attention warning system. Adaptive cruise control is another standard safety feature.

Hyundai PALISADE

The Hyundai PALISADE is the largest SUV in the Hyundai lineup. It has three rows of seats and room for up to eight people. The wide range of trims gives you everything from the basics in the base trim to the ultra-luxury Calligraphy. Every PALISADE uses the same engine; the 3.8-liter V-6 delivers 291 horsepower and gets 262 lb-ft of torque. It works with an eight-speed automatic transmission and comes with front-wheel drive. All-wheel drive is available as an option.

The spacious cabin has a height-adjustable driver’s seat if you have the entry-level SE trim. The SEL adds to this with simulated leather upholstery, a hands-free liftgate, dual-zone automatic climate control, and power-adjustable front seats. You’ll also get heated front seats in this trim. Moving up to the higher trims adds heated front seats, rear sunshades, ventilated front- and second-row seats, and a cabin intercom system.

Choose the Calligraphy for a massaging driver’s seat, quilted leather door inserts, wing-out headrests for the second-row captain’s chairs, and premium leather upholstery.

The technology in the PALISADE is impressive. A 12.3-inch touch screen comes standard and works with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. An integrated navigation system is also a standard feature. The SEL adds a wireless phone charger, and you can get a 115-volt household-style power outlet and a 12-speaker stereo system with the available Premium Package.

It’s no surprise that the PALISADE has a full suite of advanced driver aids. No matter what trim you choose, it’ll come with a forward collision mitigation system, rear parking sensors, adaptive cruise control, and a blind-spot monitor. The higher-end PALISADE trims also have a 360-degree surround-view camera system, a blind-spot camera, and a head-up display. The Calligraphy also adds Smart Parking Assist, which allows the driver to remotely park the SUV, and it has a rear parking collision avoidance system.
